We are looking for a Pavement Survey Driver Technician

The Pavements division is the largest pavement survey group in New Zealand working on NZTA and local government highways, airports and ports, and we are expanding our survey team.   

The successful applicant will be trained up to use a variety of vehicle-based survey equipment: the High-Speed Data (HSD) collection vehicle the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), and the recently developed Multi Speed Deflectometer (MSD).  

We are seeking applicants from Auckland/Waikato and Christchurch areas with mechanical ability and problem-solving skills, who are willing to travel throughout the country on various projects. The applicants will be expected to work remotely at times and to be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and traffic management on-site.  

The HSD operator will be required to either drive or operate the equipment.  

FWD surveys are normally carried out at night, so the applicant should be able to work nights as required.  

Applicants should be willing to work away from home 2-3 weeks at a time.  

Working hours will vary depending on workload, project size and location.  

Skills and experience required:  

  •  A full and clean NZ Class 1 driving license.   

  • The ability to be able to tow/manoeuvre a trailer.  

  • Mechanical, electronic, and technical aptitude.  

  • Computer competency, including the use of Word and Excel.  

  • A good standard of literacy.  

  • Willingness and ability to travel and stay away from home for work as/when required.  

  • Willingness and ability to work nights or weekends as/when required.  

  • Strong attention to detail.  

  • Good attitude to work, and a willingness to learn.  

  • Self-motivation, and the ability to think for yourself.  

  • Be a reliable, honest, and flexible team-player.  

Other attributes that are not essential, but would be useful to the role:  

  • Preferrable but not essential - HT class 2 to allow operation of other GeoSolve survey trucks.  

  • Previous work experience in the pavement industry.  

  • Experience in servicing and maintenance of equipment.  

  • The ability to park and store a vehicle and trailer securely.  

 Initial salary would be dependent on the practical experience and aptitude with review after 3 months.
