Light Weight Deflectometer

The light weight deflectometer (a small portable version of the FWD), used worldwide for testing the subgrade and subbase layer during construction of new pavement and site investigations of existing pavement.

  • The Light Weight Deflectometer (LWD) is a lightweight FWD, using the same load cells and geophones. Applying loads from 0-15kN makes the LWD an ideal tool for testing subbase and subgrade materials to determine both the modulus and compaction.

  • Layer modulus are viewed in real time and reports can be viewed on site.

The LWD is used worldwide for:

    • Determination of modulus and CBR for design

    • QA/QC of testing the subgrade and granular

    • Checking of trench reinstatements

    • For testing the prepared formation of your pitch or a stone foundation which supports the turf system of your pitch. It works equally well for the assessment of the base of an athletic track or court.

    • Areas of confinement where plant access is restricted.

The LWD meets all LWD international standard:

    • NCHRP 10-84 “Modulus-Based Construction Specification for Compaction of Earthwork and Unbound Aggregate”

    • TPF 5(285) “Standardizing Lightweight Deflectometer Measurements for QA and Modulus Determination in Unbound Bases and Subgrades”

    • Italy UNI11531-1: 2014 “Construction and maintenance of civil infrastructure works—Criteria for the use of materials—Part 1: Lands and mixtures of unbound aggregates”

    • BS 1924-2:2018 “Hydraulically bound and stabilized materials for civil engineering purposes”

    • CEN/TS 17006:2016 “Earthworks. Continuous Compaction Control (CCC)”Geosolve offers a variety of profiling devices.
