STEEL & TUBE DUNEDIN

Steel & Tube required a purpose built 4,000m2 distribution warehouse and 600m2 trade shop to replace their existing premises.

GeoSolve engineering geologists scoped and executed a comprehensive geotechnical investigation to quantify the very soft and potentially liquefiable ground conditions that were known to lie beneath the site.

GeoSolve designers then worked with the Contractor and design team to come up with a robust stone column ground and structural raft foundation design capable of supporting the structure which included multiple heavy gantry cranes and high concrete walls.

The ground improvement was the first of its kind to be used in Dunedin and was installed by a specialist contractor out of Christchurch.

Key Project Challenges

  • Very soft and liquefiable ground conditions

  • High structural loading

  • Large floor area
