GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATIONS

Results from a geotechnical investigation could be the most important information you get when developing a site. A well tailored investigation will:

  • Help smart purchasers make informed decisions on whether to purchase a site

  • Confirm if a standard foundation can be used

  • Enable foundations, strengthening and retention designs to be undertaken

  • Provide for better understanding of earthworks and construction costs

  • Support resource and building consent applications as required by council

We offer range of investigations to suit your specific project and budget.

WHAT WE OFFER:

1. Pre-purchase Inspection

We review historic information held on our extensive database as well as council hazard information. In addition, a visual appraisal by one of our locally experienced and trained professionals is undertaken while we discuss your development plans. For greater assurance we can also confirm any issues with simple ground testing.

  • Avoid committing to an expensive build with unexpected complexities

  • Identify how straightforward or complicated a build may be

  • Select from a list of potential sites being considered

2. 'Good Ground' Check

Subsurface investigation using a Scala penetrometer and hand auger in accordance with NZS3604 standard. Results are presented in a basic letter report so you can proceed construction with confidence.

  • Verify that the ground conditions are suited to standard foundations or whether your foundations need to be specifically designed

  • Understand the type of ground that supports your building or investment

  • Avoid unnecessary cost and delays if completed at the early stages of development

  • More easily obtain Council building consent and code compliance signoff

3. Geotechnical Investigation

Subsurface investigation using a combination of investigation techniques that is specifically tailored to your site, development intentions and budget. This suits more complex sites where natural hazards may be present or larger projects which comprise deep excavations or the subdivision of land. Investigation results and recommendations are presented in a comprehensive geotechnical report.

  • Understand in detail the type of ground that supports your development

  • Identify and assess land instability and other natural hazards that may exist on your site

  • Select the optimum foundation, retaining wall or remedial solution for your conditions

  • Avoid unnecessary cost or delays in construction due to unforeseen ground conditions

  • Inform your designer and structural engineer so that they can progress designs appropriately

  • More easily obtain Council building consent and code compliance signoff

4. Commercial and Subdivision Investigations

We carry out a comprehensive subsurface investigation involving a combination of the best investigation techniques (Boreholes, CPT's, HD-DCP etc.) that are specifically tailored to your project. Results are presented in a comprehensive geotechnical report.

  • De-risk construction projects

  • Understand in detail the type of ground that supports your development

  • Select the optimal foundation or retaining wall design for your conditions

  • Help inform your structural engineer or others on detailed design of buildings, earthworks or seismic strengthening upgrades

  • Avoid unnecessary cost or delays in construction due to unforeseen ground conditions

  • Obtain Council building consent and code compliance signoff
